Mitico is growing!

Hi Friend of Mitico,

You might be wondering what we mean when we say that Mitico is growing. Are we capturing carbon? Expanding the team? Signing new projects? The answer is yes to all three.

We closed out 2025 on a high note, surpassing nearly all the KPIs set for our first industrial pilot. Centennial 1.1 has proven even more robust than anticipated and operated successfully in the demanding environment of a refinery.

While the end of 2025 also brought some construction delays for Centennial 2, progress is firmly back on track. The complete unit has arrived at NRCAN CanmetENERGY Ottawa, and installation is nearly finished.

We have also grown our Canadian team with the addition of Owen Tyman to support Alan Gu in the installation of Centennial 2.0. Our R&D team in Pasadena has also grown with the addition of Matthew Tang.

I am also particularly proud of our team for receiving the following accolades:

  • Wuwei Mo was featured in a publication by UC Berkeley’s Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership.
  • Clément and Léopold were featured in the Spring 2026 issue of Lifestyles Magazine.
  • Mitico was recognized as one of the Top 50 Contech Startups 2026 in the Green Construction category and as a Change 100 company.
  • Finally, Ron Rogers represented the entire team at the final event of Snam’s Hyaccelerator program, celebrating our successful completion of the program.

Mitico at Snam Hyaccelerator Day 2026

Mitico recently participated in Hyaccelerator Day, hosted in collaboration with Snam and key partners across the energy and climate ecosystem.

The event brought together stakeholders working on advancing hydrogen and carbon management solutions, with a strong focus on bridging innovation and industrial deployment.

For Mitico, this was an opportunity to engage with partners on the role of carbon capture in enabling decarbonization across hard-to-abate sectors. Discussions focused on practical deployment pathways, system integration, and the importance of scalable solutions that can operate within real-world constraints. The event also reinforced the importance of collaboration across the value chain—from infrastructure providers to technology developers—in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of this initiative and look forward to continued collaboration with Snam and other partners involved in the program.

Industrial pilot in Thailand

We’ve also continued our testing work in Thailand with Ron and the local team. What’s been valuable here is seeing how our systems perform outside controlled environments. Every site teaches us something new: about operations, reliability, and what it really takes to scale. It’s steady progress, but it’s the kind that builds confidence.

The first commercial demonstration of Mitico’s carbon capture technology has been successfully completed at the Bangchak Oil Refinery in Bangkok, Thailand. The unit was operated in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), achieving 600 cumulative hours of operation. The sorbent completed more than 30 cycles in each of three separate runs.

The system’s simplicity was demonstrated through successful operation by a single AIT student, who only needed to attend the unit at key moments during each cycle. Each cycle was completed within a single day shift at the refinery. Minimal intervention was required, and most of the operator’s time was dedicated to collecting operational data for Mitico and optimizing unit performance.

This first deployment of the technology outside Mitico’s laboratories confirmed that both the unit and the Carbionik™ sorbent can achieve the expected level of carbon dioxide capture from flue gas generated by blue hydrogen production within the refinery. The unit demonstrated an equivalent annual carbon capture capacity of 25 Mt CO2. Greater than 99% CO2 removal was achieved across inlet flue gas concentrations ranging from 10–20 vol%.

The sorbent was regenerated using steam, enabling recovery of high-purity CO2 with an overall recovery rate of 95%. Building on the success of this demonstration, Mitico has designed and is implementing a second commercial demonstration unit with triple the capacity.

This quarter, we’re spotlighting Owen Tyman, who’s been working with us as a co-op student from the University of Ottawa.

Owen has been hands-on with our Centennial 2.0 pilot plant, helping assemble and run the system. It’s the kind of experience where things go from theory to reality pretty quickly. What stood out in talking to him was how much he values being part of something tangible: “We’re not just talking about reducing emissions—we’re actively building systems that capture CO2,” said Owen.

He’s also a rock climber, which feels oddly fitting—there’s a similar mindset of figuring things out step by step when the path isn’t obvious.
