Install, Commission, Capture, Repeat...
Friend of Mitico, the past three months have been a whirlwind of activity here in Pasadena, and I’m excited to share some of the incredible milestones we’ve reached on our journey to deliver an affordable carbon capture technology:
- In mid-February, we successfully concluded our $4.3 M Seed round, led by Exergon;
- By early March, Mitico, Inc. proudly joined the Third Derivative accelerator/consortium as part of their 2025 start-up cohort, and Mitico International was honored to be selected for the Tech4Regen program in Switzerland;
- By the end of March, we completed the major construction at our inaugural pilot site and produced over 150 kg of CarbionikTM, our proprietary potassium carbonate-based sorbent designed for carbon capture.
We were pleased to welcome Dr. Kevin O'Connor to spearhead our sorbent research and development efforts. Additionally, Leopold visited the Energy Farm at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to evaluate the efficacy of Mitico's technology in capturing CO2 from industrial-scale biomass combustion. The results were successful!

Apr 23: Special webinar on LCA for CCS
Boundless Impact and Mitico are collaborating to present an exclusive webinar on April 23, 2025, at 11 AM PT/2 PM ET. This event will delve into how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluates CCS solutions, reveals hidden trade-offs, and informs more strategic decision-making for industrial decarbonization. The Boundless research team, alongside industry experts, will offer practical insights into the pivotal role of CCS in achieving net-zero objectives. We invite you to register and join us for this insightful session!
We closed our over-subscribed Seed round

Led by Exergon with a consortium of forward-thinking investors including AP Ventures, W. L. Gore & Associates’ ventures team, SOSV HAX, Freeflow Ventures, Alliance for Southern California Innovation, Halliburton Labs and Deepbright Ventures (by Hello Tomorrow). – Full press release can be read here.
We installed Centennial 1.1

Ron Rogers, our amazing Director of International Operations and CEO of Mitico International Sàrl has teamed up with Alan at our customer site in Thailand. They're putting the finishing touches on the installation of Centennial 1.1, getting it all set and ready to go! Meanwhile, our fantastic host team is diving into training on how to operate Centennial 1.1 at an industrial boiler in a refinery.
We tested our process with biomass combustion

Working together with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Energy Farm, Leopold had a great success in testing the Mitico CarbionikTM sorbent under some pretty strict biomass combustion conditions. The results showed that the CarbionikTM formulation has an amazing ability to capture CO2 throughout the entire testing period. If you're curious about how Mitico's cutting-edge solutions can boost your biomass combustion applications, our team is excited to share all the insights you need!
We made the local and international press

Our local newspaper, The Outlook, prominently featured an article on the Alliance for SoCal Innovation's recent investment in Mitico. Additionally, TechCrunch published an enthusiastic article on us.
